Mindfulness is Hard

How someone with ADHD does mindfulness

Week 3 of my podcast and this was one of the hardest to get out. This week I moved house and started back at work travelling to Adelaide for an event. My wife is also 37 weeks pregnant.

My journey into mindfulness happened because of desperation. Learning to control my mind with ADHD, anxiety has been a huge challenge. I still have to show up each day and practise it, it’s not something that comes natural to me.

Everything in our environment is trying to grab our attention, unless you protect your attention, you are at risk to scrolling your life away.

If you are unsure if you need mindfulness practise in your life - think about these points for a second:

  • Can you sit and eat dinner without using your phone

  • Can you watch the TV without also using your phone

  • Do you say you are good at multitasking

  • Can you go on walk without headphones

  • Can you sit with your friends, kids etc without your phone

Most of us struggle daily with these, I do. We must set boundaries around our tech usage and wake up. I don’t want to add to the fear mongering around tech, I want people to build a better relationships with their minds and that comes from boundaries.

I’m not anti phone, I want live more. Living for me is nature, it’s friends, family. It’s playing with the dog, running up mountains. Reading a good book, watching a good movie.

This episode is about my journey. I wish I had more time to plan this episode but the workload this week has been overwhelming. I nearly didn’t put it out, but here it is.
